Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone are internationally famous Wiccan authors and experts on Witchcraft, Magic and Pagan religions.  Together with the now-deceased Stewart Farrar, Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone have published many classic books on Wicca and modern Witchcraft.

Janet and her first husband Stewart Farrar met in Alex Sanders’ coven in London in the late1960s.  By 1971, Alex Sanders had initiated both Janet and Stewart into what later was called Alexandrian Witchcraft.

Stewart Farrar, a seasoned novelist and journalist for the BBC, then published his first book on Witchcraft, What Witches Do.  With Janet as a co-author, more influential books followed, including The Witches’ Way, Eight Sabbats for Witches, and Spells and How They Work.

In 1993, Gavin Bone joined the Farrar writing team.  He began his path in Paganism as an initiate of Ray Buckland’s Seax Wicca.  The Farrars and Bone co-authored three more books, The Pagan Path, The Healing Craft, and The Complete Dictionary of European Gods and Goddesses.  Then, Stewart Farrar died in February of 2000, after an illness.

Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone have gone on to write Progressive Witchcraft together.  It has been described as “refreshingly honest”, “visionary” and “required reading” by authors like Phyllis Curott and sources like Pentacle Magazine and The Witches’ Voice.

Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone reside in Herne’s Cottage outside Kells, in the Republic of Ireland.  They consider themselves Priestess and Priest of Freya, and the main focus of their work is Trance Prophesy, Seidhr and Spiritism.  They teach internationally as well as on the web.  You can find their homepages at www.wicca.utvinternet.com

Educational Workshops: Attend and participate in presentations highlighting religious and metaphysical topics.

  • Progressive Witchcraft - (One and a half hours) How will Wicca and Witchcraft develop during the next century?  Can we discern evolutionary patterns within Wicca, after the first 50 years?  What are the true origins of Wicca and modern Witchcraft?

Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone will answer these questions and more during their hour and a half workshop Progressive Witchcraft.  Professor Ronald Hutton describes Farrar and Bone’s book Progressive Witchcraft as “a powerful counterbalance to the tendencies to fundamentalism and narrow-mindedness by modern Witches.”

With wit and wisdom, Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone will reminisce about the early days of Alexandrian and Gardnerian Wicca.  They will tell you where they believe Wicca and Witchcraft will be going in the next century. Their opinions may surprise you, and their stories about Wicca’s origins are refreshingly candid.  Prepare yourself for an entertaining discussion followed by some time for questions.

  • Trauma and Magic: Diagnoses, Groups, and Beyond with Micheal Reeder. Often times folks drawn to the unusual and the occult are re-discovering themselves after a difficult past.  That past history can lead to a variety of symptoms that friends may not realize are psychological in nature.  These symptoms can effect covens, groves, and other working groups.  This workshop will start by covering some of the symptoms of persons with trauma histories.  We'll briefly cover the spectrum of trauma disorders and discuss how such may effect the groups you are a part of.  We'll wrap up with a speculative discussion on the links between abuse and psychic or trance abilities.  Time permitting me may range into the differences and similarities between psychosis versus psychic or magical capabilities.

Michael Reeder, MS, LGPC operates a counseling practice in both Baltimore and Washington, DC.  His primary interests are Tarot, developing Neo-Pagan "pastoral" counseling methods, and the overlaps between magic and psychology. He holds a Masters degree in Clinical Community Counseling and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Spiritual and Existential Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Michael has presented workshops for the Mid-Atlantic Pagan Alliance Beltaine Festival, Free Spirit Gathering, and the Pagan Leadership Skills Conference.  His blog can be found at http://www.pagantherapy.com

  • A Wiccan Cosmological View of Time: How do witches conceptualize the multiverse beyond the four seasons and the sacred circle?  What are the commonalities between our modern Wiccan views and ancient concepts of time and eternity?  In this short talk, Katrina Messenger will explore the mystery of time and the wheel of eternity.

Katrina Messenger, a full time shaman and mystic, is the founder of the Reflections Mystery School. Katrina works extensively with mythology, dreamwork, ritual and trance as a means of self exploration, self healing and self evolution. Katrina believes that any attempt to change the external world must be paired with the inner work of a personal spiritual practice.

Katrina uses myth, magick and mystery to lead her students to greater well being and greater awareness of their unique gifts, abilities and talents. As a healer, teacher and priestess, she believes that everyone has a unique purpose and can walk the path of sacred vocation. Her website: http://www.katrinamessenger.com/

PLASTIC SKY
2:00pm - Lee District Park Amphitheater

Put emotions and edge together with introspection and an itch to push at boundaries and you've got the signature sound of Plastic Sky. Like its name, the band's music is about opposites enmeshing...the organic with the synthetic, the delicate with the abrasive, the dreamy and ruminative with the hard-hitting and confrontational. At times dark and brooding, at times tender and blissful, always searching, ever restless, the songs wander a terrain populated by love, politics, and contemporary society, as lyrics push to the brink of poetry without spilling over. Susane is on vocals and guitar, Martijn on guitars, Kevin on bass, and Paul on drums and vocals. Paul will not be attending this performance, and Plastic Sky will be acoustic.
