MISSION & NARRATIVE

A Pagan community center initiative serving the Washington, DC region - The Open Hearth Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established to provide gathering space and resources for Pagans of all paths.

What Do You Do?

Through planned facilities, events, and programs the OHF works to address the real and critical need in our community for open and dedicated space. It is our intent to create space to call Pagan, space to call sacred, and space that we can all use together in fellowship for service, spiritual growth, worship, prayer, and education.

How Do You Do This?

The OHF creates community space through the operation of a capital drive campaign, the seeking of community advice, and the encouragement of community networking.

The OHF capital drive campaign includes:

The OHF seeks community advice through:

The OHF encourages community networking through:

How Will The Center Work?

OHF facilities are based on the principles of proximity, security, inclusion, open management, utility, external support, environmental awareness, and good corporate citizenship. For more please see the OHF Principles of Place.

Who Will The Center Serve?

You! It is YOUR community center. While the OHF can create the space, how that space is used shall largely be up to you. Whether it is to meet, teach, perform, worship, study, or socialize; your ability to use the center according to your own community-based needs comprises the central purpose and charity of the OHF.

Are You A Church?

While serving an important religious need, the OHF is not organized as a church. We don't advocate a specific tradition, maintain clergy, or hold regular services. You also don't need to be a member of the OHF to take part in any standard OHF program or resource.

Instead, the OHF is a publicly supported nonprofit corporation. We are headquartered in Sterling, VA and registered under Title 13 of the Virginia Nonstock Corporations Act. The OHF is also a federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. For more about the structure of the OHF please see our Corporate Documents.

Are You An Umbrella Organization?

No. The OHF neither seeks, nor has, overarching control over those who work with us. We place a tremendous value on the inherent sovereignty of our sponsoring groups and individuals and only mention our supporters in order to provide a very important "thank you!" Without their help, nothing the OHF does would be possible.

Is There A Way I Can Help?

Yes! Become a member (a Friend of the Hearth)! If you work with a group, please take a moment to visit our Donor Guide. For even more ways you can support the OHF, see: How You Can Help.
